sometimes reality doesn’t cooperate.... so you go somewhere else.
 
"numb slumber" is about escaping into sleep and dreams, where feelings can become whatever you want them to be. if i couldn’t really have this person in real life, at least my mind could create another version of the story while i was asleep.
 
there’s desire in the song, but also embarrassment, disappointment and that weird feeling of waking up after believing in something that only existed inside your head.
 
so instead of getting up and dealing with it.... the character would rather stay drowsy for a little longer.
