sometimes being middle class feels like living in this weird in between.... you have food, water and a place to live, but most of your time still belongs to work.
 
i would scroll through trips, houses, restaurants, beautiful lives, successful people.... while sitting at home thinking about everything i wanted to do but couldn’t always afford, reach or even find the energy for. the phone becomes this strange little window where your dreams are always visible, but somehow still far away.
 
that is where "scrolling dreams" comes from. instead of actually living some of those dreams, i was literally scrolling through them.... sometimes mine, sometimes somebody else’s. and the more you watch, the harder it becomes to tell whether something is really your dream or just something the internet taught you to want.
 
the song also makes fun of my own exaggeration. i complain that i’m poor, then immediately correct myself with "okay, well, not sooo poor". the frustration isn’t about having nothing.... it is about working all the time just to maintain a normal life, and still feeling like freedom, travel, fun and even rest are luxuries. you survive, you pay your bills, you go back to work.... and somehow your actual life keeps happening on a screen.
