sometimes moving on does not begin because you stopped caring.... it begins because there is nowhere left to wait.
 
after all the questions, anxiety and silence of the previous songs, this one finally turns toward another direction. there is still hurt in it, but the energy has changed. instead of trying to understand what happened, i am starting to imagine a road beyond it.... somewhere new, with someone who might actually be willing to travel it with me.
 
and funny enough, by the time i was finishing this story, another one had already quietly started. i had met max, an american, and suddenly i was looking at another border, another distance, another completely uncertain relationship.... apparently i had learned absolutely nothing hahaha. "Offshore" ended up becoming a little bridge between "2018, phil" and the story that would eventually become "2019, max".
 
that is also why all the highways, new routes and questions about where i might end up feel important now. "will i get there? will i stay there? will i live there?" i genuinely had no idea. i only knew that i was leaving one story while something new was beginning somewhere beyond the horizon.
 
"offshore" became the image for that movement.... leaving familiar ground without really knowing what is waiting on the other side. the song does not end with all the answers i wanted from the previous relationship. it ends with a goodbye, a new road and the strange possibility of falling in love again.
 
released on may 5, 2021, "Offshore" became the epilogue and final song of the "2018, phil" audiovisual story.... while quietly opening the door to "2019, max".
